The observation unit at Saint Agnes Medical Center is a 27 bed unit that cares for an array of patient populations. It serves the hospital as a place where patient are provided services that require longer than an ER visit, but a shorter time frame than being fully admitted to the hospital. Furthermore, the observation unit serves populations that need further diagnostic tests to help physicians determine if an admission to the hospital is warranted. Teamwork is the backbone of approach while caring for patient in this area as most patients spend less than 48hrs in this unit. It is the perfect segway for employees who want to experience that fast pace environment of an ER with some bedside nursing mix in to the equation. Employees who work in this area have a natural tendency to move into the ER or critical care setting as they will be trained in ACLS and cardiac rhythms. It is a great place to become familiar with many different patient populations and how to manage their care.
