Delivering on our promise to provide expectant mothers and their babies with exceptional care, the Women and Infant Services department is presently undergoing a major renovation and expansion. More than just aesthetic improvements, the project will ensure that all of the 300-plus patients who deliver at Saint Agnes each month will enjoy a private room throughout their stay.
But even before it’s time to deliver, Saint Agnes is committed to providing specialized care for expectant moms should a pregnancy-related emergency arise. In fact, Saint Agnes is the only area hospital to offer an OB Emergency Department (OBED) staffed 24/7 by board certified OB/GYN hospitalists. The department also has an interdisciplinary team of IBCLC Registered Nurses, Clinical Assistants, and OR Techs in-house at all times.
Mothers can also take comfort in knowing that if a complication arises, her baby is in the best hands possible. The Valley’s premier pediatric hospital, Valley Children’s Healthcare, operates a Level II and Level III NICU onsite at Saint Agnes. Both units are staffed by pediatric nurses from Valley Children’s so babies can get the higher level of care they need while staying close to mom.
The Women and Infants Service department is continually furthering education and best practices that are in line with AWHONN and ACOG. This includes an OB simulation lab that is helping us on our journey for PLAT and baby friendly implementation. Our education department is well developed and led by a Clinical Educator as well as an AWHONN instructor.
